The Academy is a national institution, very much a part of the fabric of the Nation; the relationship we have with the public is important to us. Our fundamental role is to develop the potential of the young men and women who are selected to come to Sandhurst so that they can take their place in the Army’s order of battle as tomorrow’s leaders. The responsibility on us to get it right is therefore serious indeed and increasingly so, given the very challenging and dangerous operating environments that the British Army finds itself deployed in worldwide. But while the core business of the Academy evolves over time to meet the challenges of the contemporary world, in today’s paradigm of war the fundamental character and ethos of this foremost Military Academy do not change. Sandhurst remains true to the values and standards that a modern professional Army such as ours must always espouse; as the reader would expect, the Nation’s Royal Military Academy champions all that are best about the British Army.
